Recent positive news in the fight against climate change: Australia blocks new coal mine near Great Barrier Reef, Canada establishes marine protected areas, and Biden signs Food Donation Improvement Act to reduce food waste.

On the 8th of February Australia has blocked off new coal mine 10km from Great Barrier Reef for the first time ever to protect the Great Barrier Reef. Stretching 2,253 kilometres along the coast of northeast Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is one of the great wonders of the natural world and must be conserved.

After more than a decade of work, the blueprints for a network of marine protected areas covering 30,000 square kilometers off of Vancouver Island have been announced. First Nation leaders in Canada have established two new marine protected areas around Vancouver Island in order to protect biodiversity. "This is an important step towards meeting our goal of protecting 30 percent of the ocean by 2030," continued the minister.
Each year, millions of pounds of the nation’s fresh food go to waste. On January 5 2023 Biden signed the Food Donation Improvement Act into law which will expand food donation efforts and ultimately reduce food waste. Stay Positive!
